Josh Gordon, back in the NFL

On Friday, the National Football League reinstated Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon on a conditional basis. Sunday he can rejoin his teammates although he can not play in the preseason, but is eligible to play Week 1. This is great news to New England and Pats nation seeing they needed a boost at the wide out position. Hopefully, he overcame his struggles with drugs in the past and is ready for a fresh start to the 2019 season. Flash is back and will be a big contributor once he hits the field and performs at his best.

Roger Goodell statement on Gordon:

NFL Statement

I understand that Roger gave him plenty of chances to sober himself up and a lot of people have different views when it comes to Josh. Goodell has had a history with the Patriots in the spy gate, and the deflate gate cases among other issues. To be honest I’m shocked that he gave Gordon another chance at his NFL dream. The 28 year old is too talented to mess up his dreams of playing football for drugs and etc. Maybe he’s proved to the commissioner that he’s a different person and ready to be a role model to others.

What does this mean to the Patriots?

Josh Gordon

Definitely a huge addition to the young Pats wide receiving corps with Josh coming back. Julian Edelman will be the main target opposed by Gordon on the other side to take some of the pressure off one another. It just gives more options for Tom Brady and the crew in the offense that can be lethal. With so many options on the offense between Sony Michel, James White, and first round pick N’ Keal Harry. It makes you think how can other teams defend one of the top offenses in the league. Get ready Patriots fans to see another exciting season come up.

Josh Gordon has filed for reinstatement with the NFL

Gordon Update:

In recent news, currently suspended Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon has filed for reinstatement into the NFL. If he gets it – is a another story. It was reported that commissioner Roger Goodell will decide whether Josh is allowed yet another chance at football. I understand this is an ongoing issue with him and drug use and failing tests. The talent that Gordon brings to the field is incredible. Josh’s football IQ is out of this world along with his speed and determination, also work ethic.

Another chance?

Josh in a Pats uniform

Many people are sick and tired of always hearing about Gordon and his off the field issues. For fans he’s an exciting athlete that can burn you down field on any route. This past off season he’s resigned with New England and now its all about a waiting game on when the word comes down on his future. This game changer hopefully has turned the corner and is on the right path to success.

Josh has teammates support:

Some of his New England teammates expressed their support for him and how close they were to him when he was on the team and want whats best for him. Personal life comes before football when it comes down to Josh and getting back to it is second. The more and more years go by with less chances he gets to prove that he can be the league leader in yards yet once again.

Gordon can boost the wide out corps:

N’Keal Harry the Patriots first round pick in 2019 got banged up in his preseason game the other night. Julian Edelman is currently out with a thumb injury. The rest of the wide receivers are all in the air besides the standout so far Jakobi Meyers who had two touchdowns in his first game. Moving back to Gordon, well he would definitely be your deep threat. Patriots nation is just going to have to wait on what the verdict will be.

Red Sox – missing a true starter?

Early Struggles

Red Sox starters

The Red Sox are having a rocky 2019 season. Is pitching the dilemma? Or is offense lacking talent at the plate? Chris Sale, David Price, and Rick Porcello have struggled when normally they’re clutch. These three studs were key pieces and the heart of the rotation last year.

Sandy Leon was recently called from the Pawtucket Red Sox.  In a corresponding move, Blake Swihart was dealt to the Arizona Diamondbacks for an outfielder. Pitching has improved, but still lacking a key starter. Sitting at 3rd in the AL East, the Sox need wins immediately if they want to compete for a playoff run. They have less than a 40% chance to make the playoffs right now.

Dallas Keuchel

It’s insane how Dallas Keuchel, A.L C.Y Young award winner, is still a free agent. 31 years old, with a lot left in the tank to pitch at a high level. He’s a former World Series Champion with the Houston Astros and a 4x Gold Glove winner. Boston should offer him a one year deal worth $10-15 million. It would bolster the rotation and put him right behind the top 3 pitchers. It certainly wouldn’t hurt. Another veteran presence is needed, and he could fit in perfectly. His record is 76-63 with a career ERA of 3.66 in seven seasons. He had an inconsistent year in 2018 but he’s deserving of another chance.

What’s next

Red Sox David Price starting

The Sox need to sign a free agent. Let me repeat that again, they need to sign a free agent. Or at least bring a pitcher from the Paw Sox to come in and serve as an upgrade. We had the best pitchers last season and now we’re struggling to get 6-7 innings from them. The rotation is talented and shouldn’t be losing. Should be interesting to follow as the trade deadline is approaching. Let hope they bring in Dallas Keuchel or someone talented to get some wins. Eovaldi is injured and we’re still waiting for Steven Wright to come back from his 80 game suspension.

The pressure is on for the hitters

Too much pressure is on Betts, Martinez, Benintendi, and Bradley JR. Pitching should balance the hitting. This team needs to get back to All Star form to be contenders again. This team isn’t close to winning over 100 games like last season. Pitchers are constantly allowing runs, and losing games they should be winning. How can this team keep winning the World Series one year and not make the playoffs the next?

Michael Chavis, an upcoming star for the Red Sox

Trooping up to the Majors

Michael Chavis is a name Boston fans should get familiar with. Let me start by saying since being called up this young man from Georgia has been raking the ball in the majors. He was the 26th overall pick in the 2014 MLB draft. Coming from The Double-A Portland Sea Dogs where he was .318/.388/.641 with 17 homers and 55 RBIs in 250 plate appearances. With confidence to be your future second baseman, he will improve better defensively and offensively.

PED & Suspension

Michael Chavis an upcoming star

In the beginning of last season Michael was suspended 80 games by the MLB for PEDS. Boston’s #1 prospect. He was apologetic for his actions in his role. Chavis said : “Over the past several months, I have been searching for an answer as to how a prohibited substance I have never heard of, DHMCT, was detected in my urine during the offseason.” Chavis immediately accepted blame and issued a public apology. “I also want to apologize for the negative attention brought to myself, my family, the Red Sox, our fans and everyone who supports me”. Red Sox fans can hope that this upcoming All Star will not let this to happen again. This young team is too promising to allow distractions get in the way.

2019 rookie season:

Michael Chavis season

Michael made his major league debut in April. His stats have been off the charts since being called up to the majors. Batting .333, with 6 home runs, and 13 runs batted in, with 51 at bats. Showing improvement each game. Hitting a walk off single to win a game against the Colorado Rockies. Impressive, especially being someone who has a lot to prove since his suspension. The New York Yankees currently have a lead in the AL East. The Red Sox currently sit at 26-23, 3rd in the AL East. Chavis wants to remain on the team he  needs to be the best man, beating out Holt and Pedroia once back from injuries. Pedroia is prone to injuries, it’s safe to say retirement will be coming soon.

The Boston Red Sox want to repeat as World Series Champions, they just need dominance on both sides of the field.

Alex Cora – non committal

Manager Alex Cora is not showing commitment to Chavis. Although he’s applauding Michael for what he’s done, Alex is committed to winning. Whomever gets the win will get the start. This team is eager to be champs again. Michael is clutch for this team. Chavis is so talented he can play any position. We need young men like him who can be the new leaders of this team. Let’s hope Chavis is the next Big Thing.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. = Superstar

SURPRISE, AZ – NOVEMBER 03: AFL West All-Star, Vladimir Guerrero Jr #27 of the Toronto Blue Jays bats during the Arizona Fall League All Star Game at Surprise Stadium on November 3, 2018 in Surprise, Arizona. (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)The Toronto Blue Jays have an upcoming talent that is in Triple AAA and shortly will be called up to the 40 man roster in the near future. Son of former player Vladimir Guerrero. He signed as a 16 year old in 2015 with the Jays. Vlad JR has shown that he is ready to take it to the big stage and help the Jays be a contender in the American League East. He could bolster a lineup in need of a spark. Toronto is in no rush to put this kid to the majors and should nurture the young talent.

Vlad JR spent most of his 2018 campaign with the Double AA affiliate the New Hampshire Fisher Cats posting 14 homers and 60 RBI’s in sixty games. Later that season he got promoted to play for the Buffalo Bisons, hitting 6 home runs and 16 RBI’s in just thirty games. I’d say those stats are good for a 19 year old. Remember, he’s just coming through the minors and learining how to be a professional. Vlad obviously has his families support and blessing.

Toronto will have a bright future with this kid. He will be playing the hot corner for years to come. I could see him being a future MVP of the league. He could be the player to start the turnaround for the Blue Jays and get them back into contention for the playoffs. He could be “the guy” to get them to a world series for the first time since 1993. One player won’t change the whole team but Vlad can make a big splash to help the organization. Toronto should be happy he’s not going against them with any other MLB teams that visit the Rogers Center. Look up Toronto you have a great player coming to you very soon.

Boston Celtics – Playoff Preview

Boston Celtics

AP Photo/Michael Dwyer)

The Boston Celtics ended the season on Tuesday night with a win over the Washington Wizards. Boston’s record was (49-33) and was good to be placed 4th in the Eastern Conference. Celtics did have an up and down season with injuries, Kyrie Irving turmoil and being linked to Anthony Davis. Albeit, the team had high expectations heading into the 2018-2019 season.  Did high expectations get to the C’s early on leading to struggle? I believe the hype is what happened, but now its playoff time.

The Opponent

The Indiana Pacers held the 5th seed at season’s end right behind Boston. Victor Oladipo went down with a season ending injury. C’s won the season series (3-1) against the Pacers. Myles Turner has been a nice player for them. Will Indiana continue to play well without their top superstar or will injuries finally throw them off their “A” game?

Player to Watch for

Photo by Glenn James/NBAE via Getty Images

Kyrie Irving should be the player to keep an eye on throughout the series. Seeing Irving missed the end of last season into the playoffs and Boston was one game short of the finals. He has to be the leader of this team and have the young core of players on the same page going forward.

Firstly, the Celtics should not take the Pacers lightly. If they take it game by game they win this series in six games. Secondly, Brad Stevens will have a good game plan to make sure the team is ready to go. Guys like Marcus Smart, Gordon Hayward, Jayson Tatum need to be healthy and will have to be ready to go. The Celtics will advance with Kyrie Irving as the entire cast will be playing together for the 1st time in the playoffs.

Marcus Stroman – On the Comeback

Toronto Blue Jays ace Marcus Stroman is poised to have a break out 2019 campaign. Its been a rough past couple of seasons for the Toronto star because of injures and such. There was a lot of hype when the “Stro Show” entered the MLB as a rookie in 2014, as a 23 year old protege. The intensity that Marcus brings to the table when he is on the mound is incredible. He was recently quoted saying that “I’m going to be special this year”.

Linked to trade talks:

In recent days and over off the season a lot of ball clubs were looking for starting pitching to boost their rotations. The Houston Astros were the most recent team looking at Marcus to make their rotation better. If he were to get traded at some point during the season he will help a team instantly. If Toronto doesn’t have the season that they have hoped for I see him getting dealt by trade deadline. Even though Stroman would prefer to stay with the Jays, it’s inevitable.

A.L. CY Young Candidate:

The CY Young award is equivalent to the M.V.P award but instead of going to the best player it goes to the best pitcher. If Stroman comes back to the right form he will be considered in the running for the CY Young award. The American League has a lot of dominant pitchers but if he’s healthy, he’ll be a top ten candidate.

Expectations for 2019:

Stroman can be a legitimate all star consideration if healthy. Toronto fans must be excited to see what he brings through the first half of the year. The upside that he has is tremendous. Toronto has a new manager at the helm for this season. Marcus Stroman 2019 Predictions; Win 12-15 games, ERA between 2.80 – 3.00 and about 180 strikeouts.

Boston Red Sox 2019 Preview:

Opening Day Around the Corner:

(AP Photo/David J. Phillip)

Just under a week away and the reigning world series champions will begin their quest for another title in Seattle against the Mariners. It’s hard for a team to win back to back championships. They have to ride the ups and downs a team endures throughout the season. The team remains mostly in tact, besides reliever Joe Kelly signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers this past off season. Expect the Red Sox to compete for another A.L. East title and be high in the standings as the season progresses.

Chris Sale Extended:

As of Friday Chris Sale had signed an extension that keeps him in Boston throughout the 2024 season. The deal that was reported by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic was five years for 145 million. Sale can opt out after three seasons. Sale is one of the most dominant pitchers the game has seen in awhile with his lights out performances. The downfall I see is him getting shut down late August early September. Alex Cora and ownership both understand that he’s the workhorse of the pitching staff and will be cautious going forward.

Season Outlook:

Mandatory Credit: Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Yankees went all in on there bullpen acquisitions over the off season. The Red Sox didn’t add any depth to their bullpen to keep up with other organizations. However, they are still in good shape as far as the starting pitching and offense going forward. J.D. Martinez and Mookie Betts have to keep putting up the numbers on offense and continue with stellar defense. Sale, Price and Porcello need to lead the pitching staff in order to back up last season’s performances if this team wants a chance at another ring.

Mookie Betts Future:

Mookie will not be a free agent until after the 2020 season. Does he deserve 400 million like Mike Trout of the Angels? Should he have taken the previous offer of 200 million? A player with the talents and caliber like him deserves a good chump of change coming off an M.V.P season a year ago. Those discussions will be on hold until future talks. Mookie’s numbers were outstanding last season, 32 HR’s, 80 RBI’s, 30 SB’s.

Kyler Murray – Successful Pro Day

Reflecting on Pro Day

On Wednesday top draft pick Kyler Murray was throwing in front of all 32 NFL scouts at his pro day in Oklahoma. Murray wasn’t seeing running, but looked precise with his throws to his wide receivers. Led by former NFL QB and head coach Jim Zorn. Zorn was guiding and talking to Kyler after every throw. Seeing that he didn’t run or throw at the combine; he lived up to his expectations. All he did at the combine was get weighed in and provide measurements. Murray didn’t perform there as he just sat back and observed the rest of the prospects.

What’s Next

Firstly, Kyler will interview with teams, coaches and scouts.  Every mock draft has him going #1 to Arizona Cardinals. That means Josh Rosen would be out of town for that to happen. The best situation for the young man is a team that needs a quarterback or at least a shot to compete for the starting gig. Secondly, he needs to have patience and wait on the big day. Landing on a team where a veteran to guide him will be an important factor in his success.

Prediction: Where He Gets Drafted

Mandatory Credit: John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

My prediction is, if he falls past the top spot, the New York Giants will draft him. Dwayne Haskins has been linked to the G-Men since the draft process started; but we will see what happens. Pat Shurmur is a good offensive minded coach that would be willing to develop Eli’s successor. I know that Murray said he is grateful is to be put in this position and excited for the opportunity to play in the NFL.

Duke Blue Devils – History – One and Done

Duke’s Struggles Throughout the Years – One & Done Plague:

The Duke Blue Devils basketball program is one of the most storied college’s in decades. Mike Krzyzewski has had great seasons winning national championships. He’s also coached some of the best players in the NCAA. However, the college has had its up and downs for quite sometime now.

Every single season there always either ranked #1 or at least in the top 10 of the AP poll and not slipping past #15. The Atlantic Coast Conference has seen Duke always at the top of the standings. They either get to the ACC title game or win the entire conference despite the competition. High School athletes are always excited to sign the letter of intent with Duke. They all seem to want to win a national title and jump to the NBA following year. “One and Done’s” have plagued college basketball and Duke has felt that in drastic fashion over the years.

Notable One and Done Players:

Corey Maggette: Corey’s numbers weren’t stymieing while in college. In fact he only averaged 10.6 per contest. However he did that in just 17.7 minutes per game. That’s 24 points per game for a 40 minute time frame. Maggette’s 6’6″ – 220 lbs and extreme athleticism is tough to replace on the college level. In 1999, he was drafted by the Seattle Supersonics. Round: 1 / Pick: 13. Imagine what Duke could have done with Corey Maggette for just one more season?

Kyrie Irving:

Jayson Tatum:

Why Does this keep happening?

I get that top recruits want to play for one of the best programs and coaches that the NCAA has ever seen. Players goals are to win one national title and be a lottery pick after march madness heading into June’s draft every year. I get that if you have the ability to play at a D-1 school you go for it.

More to Come

Zion Williamson:

Scouts, players, coaches have said this young man has been the best player since LeBron James. He can flat out ball up and play. His dunking skills are the best and he has to improve on his offensive and defensive game a tiny bit. Projected top pick in this year’s draft he will help a organization go in the right direction. Free agents probably want to play with him and help develop the basketball IQ better.

RJ Barrett:

Another notable player that might be lost from the Blue devil team. RJ is averaging just over 23 points per game for Duke. Projected top five pick in this year’s NBA Draft. The kid has a great skill set and fits Coach K’s game plan very well. The talent that he has shown this past season has been outstanding game in and game out. His game will transfer to the NBA very quickly and he will perform well at the next level.

Will Duke Win A National Title Any Time Soon?

Duke fans will see another national title heading there way sometime in the near future. The team has a chance this season to make a deep run. But as we have seen in recent seasons either they win the first round game then get upset by a lower seed then leave your head scratching. How does a team with so much potential and talent loose early? The Blue Devils will have chance to change the recent struggles just under a couple weeks as the tourney starts.
