Chandler Catanzaro former NFL Player
Chandler Catanzaro, 28 year old former New York Jets Kicker jumps to early retirement. As he leaped to a drastic decision after struggling with the preseason game against the New York Giants. He signed a 1 year contract worth 2.3 million dollars and then said “I can’t say I ever thought I would’ve been a kicker, but I’m thankful that kicking chose me.” Then chose to retire.
According to ESPN Catanzaro has to return his $500,000 signing bonus to the Jets. Coach Gase of the New York Jets stated that Chandler came into his office on Friday and stated that he was done. Do you think that Chandler gave himself enough of a chance or did he jump into a rash decision?
Catanzaros’ Former Career
Chandler started his career in 2014 where he played for the Arizona Cardinals for 3 seasons. In the 2018 season Catanzaro played for both Carolina Panthers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Chandler clearly, very unhappy with his preseason performance missed 2 extra point attempts. With great pressure on the kicker position I think that Chandler was unsure if he could bring extra greatness to the team. I’m hesitant to say if he is giving himself a fair chance with only the first preseason game being his last. There is still time to practice before heading into the regular season.
Chandler made 25 out of 30 field goal attempts and made all 29 of his extra point attempts in 2017. As well as 78 points in his 2018 regular season. Myself being very surprised that Chandler isn’t willing to see what his future holds. The New York Jets have replaced the kicker. Coach Gase stated “I appreciate the fact that he came in there and did it. He could have easily rode it out and seen what happened. I appreciated him doing it at that time and being straight with me.” The 2019 season brings a new kicker to the New York Jets and we shall see what happens. I would’ve loved to see what former kicker Chandler Catanzaro could have done.
