Is it ever okay?!
First we ask, is it ever okay for a player to demand a trade? Well, yes and no. Honestly, to me, it should be a no if the player has 1 year or less remaining on their current contract. If they signed a 5 year contract with 2 years left and want a trade then maybe. We also have to figure out why they’re demanding a trade. If a coach and player don’t get along then yes that trade request should be in the works. But if simply because the team isn’t winning and the player wants off then NO, that’s the team you signed with, now you wait it out. What do you think?
Jalen Ramsey, CB of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He recently got into a small scuffle with head coach, Doug Marrone. I respect Ramsey because he’s still playing even though he’s adamant about his trade request. He’s in the prime of his career and is probably sick of the Jaguars losing and who can blame him. He also has NOT signed an extension so he’s well within his right to request a trade or he can just leave in the off season. Which will probably happen because Jacksonville doesn’t want to lose him but also doesn’t want to pay him either.
Anthony Davis. Ohhh this one really pisses me off. AD was the face of the New Orleans Pelicans and all of a sudden wanted to leave. No surprise him and LBJ share the same agent, Rich Paul, so you better believe Paul and LeBron had something to do with him requesting a trade. Yes I understand the Pelicans weren’t great, but AD is always hurt and always out.
The team should’ve did a better job building around him though I will say that. The Pelicans recently were rewarded with the First pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and no surprise they took the best player, Zion Williamson. Even that pick, AD didn’t want to stick around. YOU HAVE ZION WILLIAMSON!! LBJ only has a few more years left, and Zion is 19 fresh in the league. That amazes me. But hey, that’s AD, he’s being brainwashed on the Lakers– so be it.
Kobe Bryant is a trade request that sticks out to me. At one point in his career he wanted a trade to the Chicago Bulls(can’t imagine why). This was after winning 3 titles with the Los Angeles Lakers. Kobe and Shaq had some drama going on and one needed to be off the team. Kobe wanted out, and wanted to be on the Bulls, even looking for property in Chi-town. Ultimately Shaq was traded to the Miami Heat were he won another Championship, and Bryant went on to win 2 more. To this day, they have made amends and are good friends. Imagine if they would’ve just stuck together? I’m think 6 titles altogether.
So see I get that players ask for trades but Anthony Davis and his request was just dumb to me. I’m not against demanding a trade but also remember you signed a contract with a team for a certain amount of time, you should abide by it.
NOTE: I could’ve put Antonio Brown in there but is he even worth talking about right now?
